Bigfoot Analysis

Though Bigfoot often evades being witnessed, one description that has stayed consistent with each sighting is its phenomenal stature and strength. Bigfoot is an incredibly powerful being, possessing more strength than humans are capable of achieving. Peter Williams, a man who claimed to be chased down to his home by Sasquatch, recounts, “‘He pushed against the wall of the old house with such force that it shook back and forth’” (Burns 1). This feat would require an enormous amount of strength, more than any human could attain, yet Bigfoot has enough power to not only cause the house to creak and rumble slightly, but to vigorously shake back and forth. The sheer amount of force exerted on the shack was so extreme, in fact, that Williams explained, “the giant treated it so roughly that it had to be abandoned the following winter” (1). While it’s not reasonable to calculate the exact amount of pushing and pulling force that would’ve been required to cause the shack to violently shake and receive such damage, what can be stated is that it is incredibly unlikely, if not impossible, for such an act to be performed by any human. In a study focused on creating pulling and pushing strength profiles for men and women, it was found that “Males' maximum push strength was 227 N in the seated position and 251 N in the standing position” (Das and Wang 1). Converting 227 N and 251 N to pounds equates to about fifty pounds and fifty-seven pounds respectively, which would most likely not be enough force to cause such severe damage to a wooden shack. It is apparent that Sasquatch is incredibly strong; however, this creature is more than just strong; it is stealthy, intelligent, and capable of foresight.

Bigfoot is an elusive creature. Charlie Victor gave his account of when he found a cave inhabited by Bigfoot, where he said, “‘This discovery greatly surprised all of us, for we knew every foot of the mountain, and never knew nor heard there was a cave in the vicinity’” (Burns 2). Victor belonged to the Skwah First Nation, a group of people who live in the mountains and forests on their reserve (2). They were incredibly familiar with the area, and yet, were also completely unaware of Bigfoot’s presence on their mountain. To be able to successfully stay hidden from a group of people who are experts in the area in which they reside requires more than just natural camouflage—it requires intelligence and foresight. Bigfoot hid their presence from the Skwah people by sheltering in secluded spots such as caves. Even though Bigfoot were living in caves, they could’ve still been found if the humans nearby knew that the cave existed. To ensure they stayed hidden, Bigfoot even managed to hide the existence of the cave itself. Upon returning to the cave after some time, Victor and his friends “found the boulder rolled back into its mouth and fitting it so nicely that you might suppose it had been made for that purpose” (2). By utilizing its strength and intelligence, Bigfoot was able to stay hidden indefinitely from the people who knew almost every inch of the land by rolling a massive stone in front of the cave entrance, knowing that even if people were to walk by the cave, they would never know of its existence. Planning, logic, stealth, and foresight all go on to prove Bigfoot’s elusive nature, but this isn’t enough to determine its origin. Next is to ponder these two conspiracy theories: Is Bigfoot closer to Humans, or have aliens left one of their experiments to roam on Earth?
