The Conspiracy
Introduction
A hulking, hairy beast, and distant cousin with humans, or an elusive extraterrestrial, with its purpose and origins unknown; what is Bigfoot? Sightings of Bigfoot date back hundreds of years ago with First Nation tribes residing both in British Columbia and the Pacific Northwest (Burns 1). Though this cryptid is now commonly called Bigfoot, it has another name—Sasquatch. The Coast Salish people gave the name “Sasq’ets” (or “Sasq’et”), meaning “hairy man,” to this creature, which was later translated to Sasquatch (Kadane 1). In more modern times, however, Bigfoot has not just been hypothesized to be a wild man, but perhaps an extraterrestrial from outer space. The next step in establishing Bigfoot’s origins is to determine the possibility of Bigfoot being either related to humans, or of alien origin, and which conspiracy theory is more likely.
